‘Gold of the Great Steppe’ exhibition publication

Publication accompanying the ‘Gold of the Great Steppe’ Exhibition (2021-2022). Featuring gold artefacts crafted by the Iron Age ‘Saka’ Scythian tribes who occupied the steppe lands of present-day East Kazakhstan. Hosted by the Fitzwilliam Museum Cambridge, this exhibition marks the first occasion that these exquisite gold artefacts have been exhibited outside of Kazakhstan.

“Joanna’s skilful and precise translation of the Russian articles written by Professors Samashev and Toleubayev were a real contribution and a gift to this catalogue "Gold of the Great Steppe." So often it is almost impossible to capture both the importance of these national treasures from Kazakhstan as well as the aesthetic pleasure of reading precise, accurate and pleasing text.”

-Professor Claudia Chang

Originally contracted to translate three chapters of the publication, I produced a series of gift cards for the Fitzwilliam Museum Shop. These cards are now available at Altai Pilgrim online shop. The original artworks (mounted and framed) are for sale at The Little Shop, Walsingham, Norfolk, UK.
